The Ministry of Education was established in 1955 as indicated in the Western Region of Nigeria Law published on 14th April 1975. Over the years, the Ministry had transformed into many life-changing phases. In 2016, it became the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology as a result of reorganization for better performance.
From the 50s to the 80s, Oyo State was at the forefront of educational development in Nigeria with the Ministry of Education as the supervising organ on matters of Education. It was on record that the then Western Region was the first to introduce Free Primary Education in 1955. Education was seen as a key to open all other sectors for positive development up till date.
